Ganderbal: At least 17 animals were charred to death in a fire that broke out in a government cowshed in this central Kashmir district on Wednesday night.

Reports said that fire broke out in a government Bull Mother Farm in Ranbir Bagh, Ganderbal and 17 animals including 10 cows, 3 male calves, 3 female calves and a buffalo calf were burned to death. The cowshed has been severely damaged.

Till the fire service reached to the spot, the shed was completely gutted. The fire was later doused by fire tenders along with the help of police.

Station House Officer (SHO) Lar, Tariq Yousuf while confirming the incident said the government cowshed was damaged in a fire incident and 17 animals were burned to death.

“A case has been registered in police station Lar under FIR No.05/2017 US 436, 429 RPC,” the official said, adding that police have taken up the investigation.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
