Army Commander reviews security situation in south Kashmir

Srinagar: Army’s Northern Command chief Lt General D Anbu on Wednesday visited south Kashmir and reviewed the prevailing security situation.
Accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Lt Gen Anbu interacted with the troops and was briefed on all aspects of security and operational preparedness in the Valley, a defence spokesman said. The visit comes amid surge in encounters between militants and government forces in south Kashmir districts of Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam.
He was appreciative of the measures put in place to meet any challenge and complimented the troops for the recent successful counter militant operations, the spokesman said.
“The Army Commander also exhorted troops to keep up the pressure on the (militants) in the Valley,” the spokesman said. He also complimented the troops for undertaking operations with “firmness and resolve.”
Lt Gen Anbu also appreciated synergy amongst all the other security agencies to effectively meet any emerging security challenges, the spokesman said. He also encouraged the soldiers deployed in the Valley to continue utmost vigil and operational focus and assured full support for their endeavours.
