Kupwara: Hunger strike by locals inside Mini Secretariat Tangdhar has entered second day as they demand construction of Sadhna Tunnel while accusing government of lackadaisical approach about the ‘grave issue consuming lives every year’.
Eye witnesses said that scores of members of sikh community on Wednesday joined the protests.
According to protesters the absence of the tunnel has already claimed over 100 lives in last 70 years.
“If there is anyone listening to us, they should take concrete steps to ease the sufferings of the residents by sanctioning Sadhna Tunnel at the earnest,” Inderjeet Kaur, who joined the protests today said.
Protesting residents say that the launched the hunger strike to shake the conscience of people at the helm of affairs.
“All including, men, women, children, girls will hit the roads for our demand. We’re being deprived of our rights,” the protesters threatened.
“If Tandgar (Karnah) belongs to India then they should construct Sadhna Tunnel at the earnest otherwise we will hold them responsible for killing our people deliberately,” Abdul Rahim, one of the protester said.
The residents have sought attention of Prime Minster of India and state governor for earlier disposal of their grievances and facilitate them with Sadhna Tunnel ahead of winters.
