In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that a braid chopping incident having taken place at Khawaja Bagh Baramulla was reported to Police Station Baramula on Thursday morning. He said police party went on spot and inspected the scene of occurrence and started preliminary investigation into the matter which revealed that the victim was a teenage girl living with her family in a rented accommodation.
The family, he said, is hailing originally from Uri and girl’s father works in Police department.
“The girl reported that her braid was chopped during the night, however she was sleeping in the same room with her parents and there seemed to be no possibility of any outsider making entry into the room,” the spokesman said.
During further investigation, he said, police found that the victim girl was suffering from psychiatric ailment with “dissociative symptoms” and has been undergoing medical treatment for quite sometime. She was examined by psychiatrist on September 28 with a follow up check up on Wednesday only in District Hospital Baramulla. Police also had her fresh check up by a psychiatrist and the report was awaited, he said.
“The girl claimed that Braid Chopper made entry through wall and escaped through closed door which manifests conversion disorder (Hysteria),” he said, adding, “Police has also recovered a fresh shaving blade from the spot.”
He said that further investigating of the case was going on, taking into account all circumstances and facts.
“Police also expresses profound gratitude to the people of the area who cooperated with police and allowed us to conduct investigation without any interference,” the spokesman added.
