Srinagar, Feb 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), under the leadership of its Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani, has urged all stakeholders, including district and tehsil bodies, to collaborate with concerned Imams, Masjid Committees, NGOs, and government departments to address the pressing issue of water body preservation and cleaning.
In light of environmental changes, declining rainfall, water shortages, and the alarming depletion of water levels, JKCSF as per a statement issued to INS emphasized the urgent need for a collective approach to safeguard vital water resources.
The forum has expressed serious concern over climate change, illegal mining, the rampant use of JCBs in Nallahs, and unauthorized dredging, which are severely impacting the region’s ecological balance.
JKCSF has also condemned the illegal encroachment of water bodies, streams, and Nallahs, along with the indiscriminate dumping of waste and sewage into these water sources.
The conversion of Nallahs into dumping sites poses a severe threat to public health and the environment.
Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani has called upon the government to take stringent action against encroachers and the officials responsible for this environmental disaster.
He warned that if immediate steps are not taken, future generations will suffer due to this negligence. The government must prioritize this sensitive issue and implement strict measures to restore and protect Kashmir’s precious water resources.
JKCSF appealed to all citizens, religious leaders, social activists, and environmentalists to play an active role in this mission. “Only through collective efforts can we ensure a sustainable and water-secure future for Jammu and Kashmir.”
