Srinagar, Sep 14: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara resident in an alleged fake government job scam, with investigators stating that 15 criminal cases have been registered against the accused across the Kashmir Valley.
The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, resident of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos, Kupwara.
According to the EOW, the case was registered on the basis of a written complaint alleging that Mir took lakhs of rupees from the complainant on the pretext of securing a government job for his son.
During the alleged transaction, the accused reportedly provided an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India. The document was subsequently found to be fake and forged, according to the investigation agency.
The EOW said that the allegations were substantiated during the investigation and the chargesheet was subsequently presented before the competent court for judicial determination.
The accused was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is presently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, the agency said.
Investigators have alleged that Mir impersonated influential persons and bureaucrats as part of a broader scheme to deceive people and obtain money from them.
According to the EOW, as many as 15 criminal cases have been registered against the accused in different parts of the Kashmir Valley. The cases are at various stages of investigation or judicial proceedings.
The filing of the chargesheet marks the latest stage in the present case, while the allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial determination.
The EOW has advised people to exercise caution when approached with offers of government employment through private individuals and to verify appointment orders and recruitment claims through the concerned government department or recruiting authority.
