SHRC orders FIR against Patwari who ‘eat up’ half of ex-gratia of NoKs of militancy victim

Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission on Monday ordered registration of an FIR against a Patwari (revenue official) for his official misconduct by paying only Rs. 50,000 against the sanctioned ex-gratia relief amount of Rs. One lakh to the NoKs of a militantcy victim in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
SHRC member Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal, while disposing of a complaint titled Bashir Ahmad Khatana son of Ghulam Rasool of Rattanpora Behnipora, Kupwara, also asked government to take to task the Patwari Abdul Rashid Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani of Behnipora . “These kinds of people are snakes who eat the lawful share of the NOKs of the persons who are victims of the militancy,” he said and also recommended to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to extend benefits of SRO-43 in favour of the family.
