Prominent cleric’s nocturnal arrest triggers shutdown, protests in Tral

TRAL: A complete shutdown is being observed in Tral sub district on Sunday against the arrest of prominent cleric during a nocturnal raid by the government forces.
Following the shutdown, a protest rally was taken out by the locals, who were chanting slogans in favour of arrested religious cleric.
The protesters said that “one of the prominent religious scholars” Maulana Noor Ahmad Trali, was arrested in a raid by forces during night hours, “which is the matter of grave concern”
They demanded his immediate release to end “protests and shutdown.” Later civil society & trade union members also joined the protests.
Meanwhile, all the shops are closed in the area while public transport is off the roads.
Earlier, dozens of Jama’at-e-Islami activists were arrested by forces in many areas of Tral.
