India confirms pilot missing after Pak claims his arrest

Srinagar: Ministry of External Affairs, government of India, on Wednesday said that one of its pilot was missing in “aerial engagement”. In a brief statement, the MEA spokesman refused to take any questions from the journalists.

“Pakistan has responded by using air force to target military installation on the Indian side. Due to our high state of readiness, Pakistan’s attempts were foiled successfully,” the spokesman said, adding, “The Pakistan airforce was detected and Indian airforce reacted immediately. In that aerial exchange one Pakistan air craft was shot down. The Pakistan craft was seen by Indian ground force falling from the sky on Pakistan side. In this aerial engagement we have unfortunately lost MiG-21, the pilot is missing in action.”
He said the Pakistan has claimed that he is in their custody. “We are ascertaining the facts.”
