Intermittent rains inundate Srinagar interiors, roads

Srinagar: The intermittent rainfall since Sunday night has caused inundation of roads in Srinagar areas while as SMC claimed to have dewatered the areas besides admitting lack of proper drainage system at various places, saying areas which have no proper drainage system are inundated.

As the rains continue to lash plains since Sunday evening, most of the roads interior roads are inundated, thus leaving the pedestrians to suffer.

The roads that witnessed inundation include Naik Bagh, Iram Lane, Stadium Colony, Bonpora, Mehboob Colony, HMT residential colonies, Parray Pora, Jahangir Chowk outside Sahara City centre, Batamaloo interiors, Habba Kadal interiors and others, the locals told INS.

They said that pedestrians are sufferings due to the inundation caused by the intermittent rainfall. Locals said that the potholes at many places were also inundated, causing inconvenience to the people.

However, they said that unlike previous times, many areas have been dewatered since the wee hours of this morning.

Moreover, the rains as per the locals also damaged some roads which were macadamized a while back, as the repair patches were washed away at some places.

The commuters as well as the pedestrians appealed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to look into the matter and redress their grievances.

Meanwhile, talking to INS, SMC Commissioner, Peerzada Hafizullah said that the dewatering process is going on since Monday morning and almost all the roads and areas have been dewatered.

He said that the mobile pumps are being deployed to the places where the corporation receives complaint regarding water logging while as permanent stations are available at several places who are functioning normally.

“SMC Mayor Junaid Azim Matoo also called the officers and directed them to ensure dewatering of the areas and roads at an earliest,” he said.

However, he admitted the lack of drainage system at various places including residential colonies in HMT, saying the areas have no proper drainage system at several residential colonies like Mustafa Abad and others due to which the areas could not be dewatered while all others are so far dewatered.
