Srinagar: A 14-year-old boy has sustained grievous injuries after he was hit by a stone in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar.

Local told INS that the youth indentified as Muhammad Younis Phafoo, son of Bashir Ahamd Phafoo of Habba Kadal was hit by a stone in this afternoon. “Some children were hurling stones on CRPF bunker in the area following which they escaped the spot. However, a 14-year-old boy who was walking through the camp was hit by a stone from CRPF bunker, resulting in grievous injuries to him,” the locals said.

The locals also alleged that the boy was thrashed by the CRPF men after he was hit by a stone. They said that the injured boy was immediately rushed to the SMHS hospital here for treatment.

The family said that he was in the market to buy vegetables but has sustained injuries as he was hit by the CRPF men there.

Officials at SMHS said that he has sustained grievous head injury while some bones in the back of his head have got fractured. “The injured boy is undergoing treatment but he is stable,” the officials said.

Meanwhile, the area observed spontaneous shutdown following the incident as all the shops in the area were closed hurriedly.

The locals also staged protest outside CRPF bunker here and raised slogans. They also demanded authorities to vacate the CRPF camp in the locality, saying that “bunker has become ‘nuisance’ for them as “such incidents always take place in the area.”

However, CRPF spokesman, Sanjay Sharma termed the incident as ‘unfortunate’ and rejected the local claims, saying that some youth were pelting stones at the bunker and while chasing them away, a youth slipped and fell down
