KAS officer among 2 trekkers dead, six trapped in Pahalgam

Anantnag: A KAS officer was among two persons who died after a group of trekkers fell into a crevice at Kolahoi Glacier near Dhanwet, about 25-kms from Aru Pahalgam in souk Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Reports said that a 9-member trekking group left for trekking on Sunday morning from Pahalgam to Kolahoi Glacier and when they came back from Kolahoi Glacier they fell into a crevice at Kolahoi Glacier near Dhanwet, resulting death of two persons.

The deceased have been identified as Naveed Jeelani (KAS), ETO and Adil Shah of Alpine Group. The injured person has been identified as Hazik.

Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has requisitioned Air Force Helicopter through the Civil Aviation Department and sought assistance of Army for helping the rescue operation.

DDC Anantnag Mohd Younus Mallik is monitoring entire process of rescuing other six members of the group. He has directed SDM Pahalgam to act as liaison officer for rescue operation.
