JAMMU: The residents of Bathandi and adjoining areas are facing shortage of drinking water supply for the last 20 days ‘due to callous attitude’ of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.

Residents accuse that no water tank supply was restored in these areas due to blockade of payment around 1 crore which is still lying with PHE for releasing to water carrying trucks.

Resident while speaking to INS said, “At one time there was much talk about drinking water master plan for Jammu and hopes were created among the people for the same. Since three weeks in the past a large area of Jammu especially the newly raised colonies an localities falling in Gandhi Nagar constituency are reeling under water crisis.”

PHE Minister Sham Chowdhary admitted that residents of new colonies are facing acute shortage of water whereas the department has already given connections to every house but there are some problems in streamlining the drinking water supply.

“The issue will be sorted out soon,” Chowdhary assured.

Referring to pending liability of water carrying trucks, Chowdhary said, “The department will clear all the liability of water carrying trucks within few days so that the immediate supply the water tanks should be restored.”
