Jammu: Foul smell, heaps of garbage lying in open and water pipes leaking, this is the bad state of affairs in the civil secretariat Jammu. The civil secretariat is badly in need of ‘Swachta Abhiyan’.

INS correspondent on a visit to the secretariat found heaps of garbage with foul smell emanating from it inside the premises while officials lavishly sat inside canteen.

Officials, wishing anonymity, disclosed that garbage is dumped behind the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation Canteen inside the premises.

“Though rallies and campaigns are held by involving people from various walks of life by the Government agencies and NGOs, but Charity begins at home,” they said.

Not only are the heaps of garbage lying in the secretariat premises, portable water is being wasted as pipes are leaking and ‘no one cares’.

“In absence of solid waste management facility, garbage mounds are a common scene. It is to be taken care by the estates department,” employee further added.

Many officials questioned ‘how could government sermon people about the cleanliness and hygiene while our own house is not in order’.

Director Estates Tasadduq Jeelani told INS that he is not aware of garbage being lying in open and water pipes leaking.

“I will look into it and I assure strict action against officials responsible,” Jeelani said.
