Sopore November 04:Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch concluded four days Training of Instructors under Social & Emergency Response Volunteer Programme (SERV) 2017 on 4th of November, 2017 at Dak Bungalow, Sopore, Baramulla. 15 participants from different blocks of district Baramulla participated in this training. The training programme was held under the leadership of Mr. M.S Rather, Honorary General Secretary, IRCS, J&K State Branch.

The objective of this training was to enhance the capacity of the volunteers who shall act as First Responders in times of emergencies, educate the community to make them more resilient to disasters to which the community is vulnerable, and Bridge the gap between the community and the Government programmes. The aim of developing SERV Volunteers is to reduce disaster risks and build resilient communities.

The participants were trained in providing Emergency First Aid, Public Health in Emergencies, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene promotion, Crisis Management, Fire-fighting, Rescue and Rehabilitation, Restoring Family Links and other activities carried out by the Red Cross Society. Resource persons from PHE Division Sopore, SDRF & Civil Defence Baramulla conducted various sessions highlighting the importance on various social and personal issues like saving water and water resources, personal hygiene, cleanliness of the surroundings etc. Practical sessions included fire-fighting, search and rescue operations, hand-washing and first aid during emergencies etc.

The resource persons present during this training program were Mr Imran Muzaffar (Programme Manager) IRCS J&K, Dr Itinderpal Singh Bali (Master Trainer), Dr Afroza Mehmood Lone (Project Coordinator, First Aid) IRCS J&K, Mr. Mohammad Abdullah, IRCS Baramulla.
