Srinagar: The late night shootout at Banihal on wednesday was a militant attack and militants fled with two rifles they managed to snatch, police said Thursday.

Two SSB personnel were injured when militants fired upon them in Banihal area of district Ramban.

“One of them later on succumbed, while another is under treatment,” police said.

The militants also snatched two weapons one INSAS and one AR 41.

“During the preliminary investigation it has come to fore that the militants have used a pistol as cartridge cases of fired ammunition have been found. Two mobile phones have also been found in a bag near the site of incident,” police revealed.

“During investigation it has come out that three youth of a madarassa are also missing,” police said.

Police has lodged an FIR and further investigation is on.
