Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association on Friday held a sit in against the ‘abrogation of Article 35-A’ which provides a special status to Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian constitution.
A large number of lawyers assembled inside the premises of high court to register their protest against the ‘attempts being made by RSS and BJP to change the demography in the disputed region. The call for the protest was given by joint resistance leadership.
“The aim of scraping Article 35-A is to take away the right of having state subject law, settle and provide government jobs to outsiders here” Miyan Abdul Qayoom said.
According to Qayoom Maharaja had enacted this law in 1927 through a notification when he announced the permanent residents J&K. “Maharaja had announced four classes” first class includes those who originally belonged to J&K, second those who owned property till 1968, third those who were given permission by the maharaja himself and fourth, those companies who work here and had some financial tie-up with the government,” he said.
Explaining Qayoom first category had preference in acquiring government jobs and for applying for bank loans and the preference was to be extended to other classes simultaneously if the upper class were not available.
