Scattered light rains forecast in Kashmir, dry weather in Jammu

Mainly Dry Weather In Store As Mercury Rises In Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, May 19: Weatherman on Thursday forecast scattered to fairly widespread light rain/thunderstorm over Kashmir and Pir Panjal range of Jammu division in next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official here said that weather will be mainly dry over the plains of Jammu division.

The official said Srinagar recorded a low of 13.4°C against 11.4°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, above normal by 2°C during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Qazigund recorded a low of 9.8°C against 9.1°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 6.6°C against 5.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.7°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 10.9°C against 8.6°C on the previous night. It was 0.9°C above normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 7.4°C against 3.2°C on the previous night, the official said. While 6.8°C is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 0.6°C above normal for the place in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 9.8°C against 9.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.3°C above normal for the district, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 26.2°C against 23.8°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature 2.3°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 12.4°C, Batote 16.8°C and Bhaderwah 13°C, the official said.

The weatherman has forecast a spell of light to moderate rain/thunderstorm from May 21st (evening)-24th at many places of Jammu and at most places of Kashmir during May 20-24th. “Thereafter, there’s no forecast of any major rainfall but temp. (Temperature) will again rise gradually from the 25th till the next spell of rain.”
