Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Friday welcomed the latest statement on Kashmir by United States, saying it will help reduce the nuclear threat in the sub-continent.
In a statement issued here, Geelani asserted that America as well as all the civilized members of the UNO should respect their commitments and the UN charter with respect to right to self-determination for all the disputed territories irrespective of colour, cast or creed.
He expressed hope that America and other western powers shall keep their pledge to support the implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir and build a moral, political and diplomatic pressure on India to pave way for a permanent solution of the Kashmir “dispute” and stop “gross human rights violations” in every nook and corner of the Jammu and Kashmir.
He expressed grave concern on the escalation of police atrocities against the pro-freedom political leaders, activists and the general public. “The police administration should desist from becoming part and parcel of the barbaric acts against their own people, like killings, beating and harassing as done by Indian forces,” he said.
Geelani also condemned police action and cane-charge against an indoor press conference organized by Moulana Abdullah Tari of Democratic Freedom Party to give details about the inhuman treatment meted out to the veteran leader Shabir Ahmad Shah.
Geelani also condemned the police action against residents, traders and transporters protesting against the shifting of transport yard at Batamallo. The octogenarian leader also condemned police atrocities against the protesting students at Tral Pulwama. He warned the administration not to make the education institutions their political hub by organizing “immoral and shameful” programes in the name of sports and culture.
“The so-called administration is hell bent to spoil the peaceful atmosphere in the educational institutions by the frequent police actions against the student fraternity,” he added.
