Bhadarwah: On Burhan Wani’s first anniversary, normal life was badly affected in parts of Chenab Valley due to shut down call forwarded by local religious organization. Stringent security measures in Kishtwar and Bhadarwah were made to stop people from taking part in pro-freedom protests.
The call for shutdown was forwarded by Joint Resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and it was supported by Anjuman-e-Islamia.
“This call was forwarded to show our support for the people of Kashmir. We wholeheartedly support the people and pro-freedom leaders of Kashmir and whatever decision they will take with regard to State’s future, the Muslims of Chenab Valley will support them. This call was also been forwarded against the implementation of GST Bill in State which is aimed at the usurping the rights and powers of the people of Kashmir,” Parvez Ahmed Sheikh, president Anjuman-e-Islamia told news agency CNS.
“We decided to observe July 8 as solidarity day with the people of Kashmir and to let both Indian and Jammu Kashmir government know that Muslims of Chenab Valley stand for Kashmir Cause and dictatorship of BJP and RSS cannot be tolerated,” he said.
All the shops and business establishments belonging to Muslim community in Kishtwar district and Bhadarwah region of Doda district remained shut while massive presence of security personnel were seen manning the roads and streets to stop possible protests. “There is complete shutdown. For the first time since 1990, I have seen such a complete strike in the region,” said a local from Bhadarwah. (CNS)
