Srinagar, July 12: Police on Sunday arrested Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai from his residency at Baghaat Barzulla here.
Official sources said that a police party arrested the elderly leader at around 5:30 am. It was not immediately known why the separatist leader was arrested. Sources also indicated that he has been booked under PSA.
Sahrai, whose militant commander son Junaid Sehrai was killed earlier this year, is the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat which was previously headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who resigned from the main Hurriyat conference as its ‘chairperson of life’.
Hurriyat conference is an amalgam of various groups and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is one of it.
