Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organising State Level Marathon “Run for Peace” Kashmir, on theJuly16,2017 under its Civic Action Programme (CAP).This was disclosed by ADGP Armed, Sh. L Mohanti, in a meeting held today at Srinagar.
The mega event will be organised under six categories, i.e Full Marathon (Men), Half Marathon (Men/Women), 8kms Run for Boys U-14, 6 Kms Run for Girls U-14 and 4 kms (Run for Peace) for kids and senior citizens. The marathon will be open for all and people interested in participating can register themselves at the Registration Counter, which shall be established at Police Golf Course (the venue for the event) by the 10th of July. Furthermore, they can also collect the Entry Forms from the Sports Section, Armed Police Headquarters, Batmaloo, during the office hours. This is in addition to the on-spot registration that can be done on the day of the event itself.
The ADGP informed the meeting that the J&K Police, under the leadership of DGP J&K Dr. S.P Vaid, is keen on organising such sports activities for the youth and this would be the first of the many events that have been planned for this summer. The ADGP further discussed in threadbare the responsibilities that have been entrusted to various committees set up for the smooth conduct of the event. He further added that the main attraction for the participants would be the Cash Prizes that are up for grabs under various categories. An amount to the tune of Rs.3,28,500 would be distributed among the winners of the Marathon, in addition to individual trophies and certificates. Further, T-Shirts and refreshments would also be made available to the participants. The ADGP further added that apart from schools/colleges, invitations would also be extended to students through the Directorate of Youth Services, Education Department and the J&K Sports Council. Further, members of the Bar Association, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, retired police officials, family members of the police personnel as well as jawans of the Jammu & Kashmir Police are also expected to participate in the event. Out station participants from Jammu and Ladakh region as well as other districts of Kashmir have also been extended invitation for their participation. Elaborate arrangements in terms of transportation, accommodation, meals etc for these participants have also been made.
While concluding the meeting, the ADGP expressed his optimism of getting an overwhelming response to the event and further appealed to the people of Kashmir, especially the youth to participate in full strength.
The meeting was among others attended by IGP Armed/IR Kashmir, S Ahfadul Mujtaba, DIG Armed/IR Kashmir, Sh. Rafiq-ul-Hasan, SSP Srinagar, SSP Traffic, SSP Crime, SSP Security, OSD to DGP, DDP APHQ, Commandants of various Kashmir Based AP/IR Bns, Dy SP Sports, Medical Superintendent Police Hospital Srinagar and other senior officers of different wings of J&K Police.
