Police arrests drug peddler in Kupwara

Kupwara: Continuing with the mission of J&K Police to free the society from drug abuse and psychotropic substances, based on specific input, the special team of District Police Kupwara has recovered ½ Kg Charas from Drugmulla area, police said.
“We have a notorious drug peddler/seller of psychotropic substances, identified as Fayaz Ahmad War of Kulangam, Handwara. In this connection case FIR No. 98/2017 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered in P/S Kupwara and investigation is in progress,” SSP Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain said in a press briefing in the district.
He said that during the special drive against drug peddlers, the special team has so far recovered 10 Kg of Charas, 1 Kg of Heroine, 03 Kgs of Brown Sugar and huge quantity of codeine.
He said that more arrest and recoveries are expected so as to bust the whole racket involved in sale of banned drugs and psychotropic substances which are involving the youth of the area.
He also said that so far 25 accused involved in drug peddling/narcotic smugglers including the cross LoC narcotic smugglers have been arrested and investigation of registered cases is in progress.
SSP appealed the local population to assist the police in its special drive so as to make the district drug free which is one of the commandments of J&K Police for the year 2017.
The people have lauded the role of the police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances which according to locals are adversely affecting and involving the local youth of the area who are future of region, police said.
SSP said that addicted youth should avail the facilities of de-addiction created by J&K Police at de-Addiction Centre PCR Srinagar.
