Srinagar: A policeman was on Friday awarded Rs 10,000 by Director General of Police Dr. S.P. Vaid for repulsing an attempt by unidentified men to snatch his service rifle while he was on guard duty of a J&K Bank Branch at Charar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district earlier this week.
At least three unidentified persons tried to snatch the weapon from the guard but it was foiled by the policeman deployed at the bank on August 7.
“The DGP has accorded to the grant of Commendation Certificate Class -1st along with cash reward of Rs 10,000 (Rupees Ten Thousand only) in favour of Sgct. Farooq Ahmed (NO. 495/BD) for showing presence of mind, exemplary courage and commitment towards his duties while repulsing the rifle snatching attempt by miscreants on August 7 at J&K Bank Branch Charar-i-Sharief,” a police spokesman said.
Soon after the incident, the police released CCTV footage in which the valour exhibited by the policeman is shown.
The police had also released the photographs of the three people involved in the weapon snatching bid and sought information about them.
