Srinagar: A shutdown is being observed in Rawalpora area of Srinagar against death of a local youth, a 2nd year student, in mysterious conditions yesterday.
The body of the youth, Umar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, was recovered from Astanapora locality of Rawalapora on Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said that the people are observing the shutdown to press for their demand for a thorough probe into the “circumstances that lead to the youth’s death”. Umar was a 2nd year student at Amar Singh College here.
All the shops and business establishments in the area are closed.  Police said that investigations have been launched to unravel mystery, if any, in the case.  “An FIR under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations initiated in this regard,” a police official said.
