Heavy snowfall continues, Pahalgam records highest overnight; ‘Weather system to persist for next 24-hours’

Srinagar: As the white blanket is getting thicker and thicker amid non-stop snow, Pahalgam witnessed highest snowfall overnight, local meteorological department official said on Thursday.
Pahalgam, the famous hill resort in Pahalgam saw 26 centimeters snow last night till 0830 hours on Thursday. It recorded a minimum of minus 0.6 Degrees Celsius.
He said that world famous skiing resort saw 25 centimeters during the time and had a minimum temperature of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, lowest in entire Kashmir Valley.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, witnessed 21-cm snowfall and night temperature settled at zero degrees Celsius while neighboring Kokernag witnessed 17-cm while Kupwara and Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded 10 centimeter snow. Last night’s mercury settled in Kupwara at 0.3 degrees Celsius and 0.5 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, the official said.
“Persistence of the weather system over Jammu and Kashmir state most likely for next 24 hours and thereafter there would be decrease in precipitation,” the official added.
