Govt allows ‘remedial classes’ by private schools with rider

Srinagar: Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Friday granted permission for remedial classes to be conducted by the recognized private educational institutions of Kashmir division.
“The recognized private educational institutions of Kashmir division can conduct remedial teaching classes during winter vacations, subject to certain conditions,” Director School Education Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo said.
He said the remedial/supplementary teaching has to be carried out by these institutions on voluntary basis with the consent of the students and their parents. “No extra fee has to be charged from the students for the remedial classes in any case,” he said and added that no such classes can by started by any private educational institution before 18 December 2017.
Dr Itoo said these institutions shall have to make fitting heating arrangements in the classes for which they will be allowed to charge Rs 300 per student upto 8th class and Rs 400 per student for class 9th to 12th for the full winter session.
He said the remedial classes shall have to be conducted between 10.30 am and 3.30 pm.
Meanwhile, the Director School Education Kashmir accorded sanction to the extension in favor of 21 private institutions to run the classes in the successive manner upto 5th primary with permission to run classes upto 8th standard in successive years. The decision has been taken on the recommendations of the committee constituted by DSEK for the purpose.
The Director School Education said that the private educational institutions are highly supportive of the genuine efforts of the Government to further the cause of education in the State.
