Gunfight in Shopian village: two army men injured, clashes erupt

Kulgam:  A gunfight between militants and government forces is underway in Kundalan Village of Shopian district since Tuesday morning.

Two army men are injured while protests between government forces and protesters were going on as well.

“Clashes erupted near encounter site, youth pelted stones and bricks on security forces who retaliated with tear smoke shells to disperse them,” local sources said.

A joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF laid cordon and search operation in Kundalan village after a specific input about presence of militants.

As the joint team reached near the house where militants were hiding, the later fired on forces, triggering off a gunfight. In in the initial firing, two army men were injured and have been shifted to 92-Base hospital Srinagar.
A police official said that the village was cordoned off around 3:00 AM on Tuesday after specific information about the militants presence in the area.
