J&K braces for another wet spell for one week

Srinagar, July 29: The Meteorological department (MeT) on Wednesday said J&K will experience more rain, and that there was significant rainfall in the past 24 hours. Samba received the highest at 87 mm, followed by Katra with 71.2 mm, Udhampur with 65 mm and Jammu with 52 mm.

The MeT Centre Srinagar has forecast more wet weather across J&K over the next one week.

An official of MeT told GNS that from July 29 to 31: Most places are likely to see a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers. There is also a possibility of brief intense heavy showers and torrential rain at a few places in the Jammu division, generally during early morning, morning and late afternoon to evening hours. A few places in the Kashmir division may also receive brief spells of intense showers during this period.

August 1 to 2: One or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with brief intense showers at a few places.

August 3 to 5: Many places will likely witness a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers. There is a possibility of heavy rain, brief intense heavy showers and torrential rain over a few districts of the Jammu division. A few places in Kashmir may also receive brief intense showers.

August 6 to 7: One or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, along with brief intense showers.

The MeT department has issued an advisory for the next 5 days.

There is a possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at a few districts of Jammu division.

Torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at many vulnerable places between July 29 and August 2.

The general public, tourists, travellers and transporters have been advised to follow the administration’s advisory and stay away from water bodies and landslide-prone areas.
