The traditional Darbar Move is an age-old biannual practice under which government offices function in Jammu during the winter months and shift to Srinagar for the summer.

The practice had been discontinued by the Lieutenant Governor-led administration four years ago, citing high costs and the need for a more efficient, digitized governance model.

Officials said the upcoming transition will involve the movement of key departments and staff to the summer capital, ensuring continuity of governance from Srinagar. Necessary arrangements are being put in place to facilitate a smooth and timely relocation process.

The Darbar Move, historically seen as a symbol of regional balance between Jammu and Kashmir divisions, had also been associated with logistical challenges, including transportation of records, accommodation of employees, and disruption of routine work.
