According to preliminary information from the Android Earthquake Alerts System, the earthquake occurred at around 5:35 am IST, with its epicentre located approximately five kilometres from Hanjiwera Bala. The tremors were felt across a wide region, including Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Ganderbal, Pulwama and surrounding areas, while the impact zone extended into parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir as well.

Locals reported being jolted awake by the sudden shaking, with many rushing out of their homes in fear. Windows, doors and household items rattled in several neighbourhoods, heightening anxiety, especially as the tremor struck during pre-dawn hours when most people were asleep.
