Light snowfall in plains as mercury drops across Kashmir; Not expecting heavy precipitation for next few days: Sonam Lotus

Srinagar: Plains of Kashmir including Srinagar on Thursday received light snowfall while night temperatures decreased across the Valley.
The Director Meteorological department Sonam Lotus said there would not be heavy precipitation for next few days.
“There are report of slight rain at Banihal, Ramban area and snowing slightly in Jawahar Tunnel and at some places of plains of Valley. It should stop shortly and we are not expecting heavy precipitation for next few days,” he said.
A Meteorological department official said that Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort, had 2.4mm of fresh snow (when converted into rain) in 24-hours till 0830 hours while as it recorded a low of minus 12.6 degree Celsius last night against minus 10.0 degrees Celsius on previous night and was the coldest place in the Valley.
Pahalgam recorded 5.6mm of fresh snow during the time and night temperature at the famous hill resort settled at minus 6.8 against previous night’s 5.5 degree Celsius while Qazigund and Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius and minus 6.7 degrees Celsius respectively.
Kupwara recorded minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius last night against minus 0.7 degrees Celsius previous night.
This summer capital of the state witnessed light snowfall and recorded a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius against minus 0.3 degrees Celsius on previous night.
