A senior police officer said, the heightened security drive is being carried out on the directions of SSP Kulgam, Shri Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS). The operation is being personally supervised by the Additional SP NHW Qazigund, SDPO Qazigund, and DySP SOG Mirbazar.

As part of the security exercise, random vehicle checking and frisking are underway at strategic locations along the Jammu–Srinagar NH-44, including the Kashmir Navyug Tunnel gate, Qazigund, Mirbazar, Alstop, Khudwani Bypass, and other sensitive areas of Kulgam district.

“The focus is on tracking any suspicious movement of subversive elements in the run-up to the national celebrations,” the officer said.

He added that several pillion riders were checked during the drive, while multiple two-wheelers and four-wheelers found without valid documents were seized.

The officer further said that multi-tier patrolling teams are conducting extensive checks along the highway and in adjoining areas using metal detectors, while dog squads have also been deployed to strengthen surveillance.

“We are fully prepared to deal with any eventuality and ensure the safety and security of commuters and residents,” he added. (KNC)
