Heaps of garbage is lying on highway and streets at different places in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District reason being the district has no dumping site.
Locals blame the muncipal committee Ganderbal (MCG) for the mess.The Muncipal committee Ganderbal turns a blind eye to the heaps of garbage on the main roads and streets in the town.
Locals of Ganderbal said MCG accusing not lifting garbage regularly on Sgr-Leh highway near Kangan stop beehama and other places in the district.
Locals also said that Heaps of garbage is lying open on Sgr-Leh highway near Beehama and foul smell from that ireking pedestrians, commuters and local residents of the area.
According to locals that not only foul smell it causes health problems and garbage on the road side is attracting dogs pose grave threat to the pedestrians and children’s.
Even students are scared of passing on the road.
Dogs are danger for school going kids there a commuter Mushtaq Ahmad said.
He also said that dogs sometimes jumps on passing vehicles.
The locals said they have made repeated attempts to raise the issue with the MCG officials, but they seem to have turned deaf ears towards the issue.
In absence of proper dumping site the garbage heaps are common scene here and local residents allege that the muncipal committee Ganderbal is doing nothing to address the problem.
The residents demand the concerned authorities should introduce a scientific mechanism to recycle the domestic waste apart from biogradable waste from the households, a large quantity of non-biodegradable garbage including plastic bags and polythene waste in dumped in the open increasing the risk of disease for the people.
When contacted Executive Officer Muncipal committee Ganderbal G.M. Lone said we are clear the garbage regularly from roads but we can’t anything to the dogs.
