Addressing a press conference, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal said the 14-year-old girl’s body was recovered from Shepora following which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed and a forensic team was called in from Srinagar to assist in the probe.

He said it was initially suspected that both sisters had gone missing and might have been kidnapped. “However, during investigation, supported by technical evidence and CCTV footage, the kidnapping claim was not substantiated,” he said.

He said during interrogation, the elder sister confessed to taking her younger sibling to the spot where the incident occurred. “An altercation broke out between them, during which she hit her younger sister with a rod on her head, leading to her death. She later tried to conceal the weapon, which has been recovered,” SSP Poswal said.

He said all relevant evidence has been collected and submitted to the magistrate and the accused has been presented before the court. (KNO)
