CS-led panel constituted for Census 2027

Srinagar, Aug 18: The government has constituted a Union Territory Level Census Coordination Committee for the upcoming Population Census 2027 to oversee planning, monitoring and timely completion of the exercise.

As per Government Order No. 1098-JK(GAD) of 2025, the committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary of J&K as its Chairman, while senior administrative secretaries of Planning, Finance, Housing & Urban Development, Revenue, School Education, and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Departments will serve as members. The Director of Census Operations, J&K, has been designated as Convener, and the Director Planning (Expenditure Division-II, Finance Department) has also been included as a member.

The committee as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust, has been tasked with overseeing coordination among all agencies at the UT level for smooth planning, implementation and monitoring of Census 2027 activities. It will also assess and facilitate timely availability of resources, logistics, infrastructure and other support required for successful conduct of the exercise.

The order further states that the panel will periodically review the progress of Census-related activities in the Union Territory to ensure efficient execution of the national exercise.

The order has been issued by M. Raju, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government.
