According to KNO, voilent protest erupted in Katra on Monday over proposed ropeway project from Katra town to the Hindu shrine of Vaishno Devi in the area.

An official said that police arrested Bupinder Singh Jamwal, a leader of Pony and Pittuu Union, along with another labour union leader Sohan Chand.

Jamwal is also a Congress leader, who recently contested assembly polls unsuccessfully from Vaishno Devi constituency.

The shopkeepers, and labourers have apprehensions that the ropeway line would decrease the footfall in the market and consequently impact their businesses.

Police have also booked many protestors for stone pelting and manhandling cops, including the station house officer of the area.
