Srinagar, Sep 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against a groom from Awantipora for allegedly evading the wedding day reception.

“On 19-09-2023 Police Station Awantipora received a written complaint from a complainant (name withheld) against one Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his father Mohammad Shaban Dar (son of Ghulam Qadir Dar), residents of Kandizal Awantipora stating therein that her wedding reception was scheduled on 16/09/2023 with one Fayaz Ahmad Dar S/o Mohammad Shaban Dar R/o Kandizal Awantipora after performing the Nikah earlier and all the arrangements were put in place for the arrival of the groom along with the wedding procession. The said wedding reception was called off at the last moment by the groom side on the pretext that the groom has run away and has refused to attend the reception thereby denying the Nikah which has been performed earlier”, reads a statement.

“Upon this Police Awantipora took the cognizance of the matter by registering FIR No 182/2023 U/S 420, 498(A) IPC in Police Station Awantipora against the groom and his father and both have been arrested”, reads the statement.

“Further investigation shall follow”, concludes the statement.
