Srinagar, Sept 12: After creating reign of terror, the bear and cub were tranquilized here on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar now announced that schools can now function normally in the uptown.
“After 21 hours nonstop operation, Black Bear spotted yesterday in Rajbagh area has been tranquillised.Great job by the Team led by Wildlife Department,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aijaz Asas said in a tweet, adding, “Area has been scanned and sanitized. All Educational institutions in the area shall open normally as per daily routine.”
A school guard, Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Habba Kadal working as a guard at a private school, was attacked by the bear and cub spotted at nearby Jawahar Nagar area roaming on the road. The injured was shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for treatment where his condition is stated to be stable, they said.
Police had issued an advisory for the people residing at Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar, Lal Mandi and its adjoining localities to remain indoors till the bear was caught.
The wildlife team had been searching the densely populated Lal Mandi and its adjoining areas to tranquilize the bear before it could attack some other people. However, it is still not known from where the bear alongwith her cub reached the area. The nearby Shankaracharya hill forest is more than 2 km away from Jawahar Nagar and Lal Mandi area.
