4 ‘drug peddlers’ booked under PSA in Kupwara: Police

Kupwara, Mar 6: Authorities in Kupwara district of north Kashmir have booked four notorious drug peddlers’, police said on Sunday.

“Acting tough against the menace of drugs peddling in the district, police today detained four more notorious drugs peddlers under PSA under the provisions of the Illicit Drugs trafficking law,” a police official said.

The police identified them as Tanveer Ahmad Najar alias ‘Tan Codeine’ of Chan Mohalla Salkoot, Ashiq Hussain Mir alias ‘Sohail Kachur’ of Mir Mohalla Salkoot, Latief Ahmad Lone of Mughalpora and Amjad Ahmad Chak of Kharwarpora Karnah. “Finding their activities as hazardous to the health and safety of the society, the police teams led by SHO Kupwara Mohd Rafiq and SHO Karnah Mudassar Ahmad after assessing the reports of its field force and public feedback , prepared the wrongdoings report of these four individuals and got them detained under the PSA warrants issued by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir”.

SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas when contacted confirmed the detention of the four peddlers under PSA and hinted at more arrests in the coming days. He said whosoever will be found involved in ruining the youth of Kupwara shall be dealt under the stringent provisions of law. “With the feedback from public, civil society and NGOs working in Kupwara, we are committed to give our best to make Kupwara a drugs free district,” said the SSP.
