The incident took place at around 2250 hours on August 11 and around 5-6 rounds of AK-47 were fired, apparently by the accused constable at Havaldar Mohammad Younis son of Ghulam Nabi of Pouni Reasi following some tiff. Mohammad Younis died on spot and his body was shifted to GMC Kathua mortuary room.  Meanwhile, the accused was arrested by other colleagues, they said.

SSP Kathua Ramesh Kotwal said that investigations are underway to work out reasons that led to the incident. Fratricidal incidents are rare among police ranks in J&K.
