Union Road Transport and Highways Secretary Giridhar Aramane on Tuesday said that the Qazigund-Banihal tunnel is likely to be inaugurated soon as final touches are being given to it.

Aramane along with chairman NHAI Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is arriving here on a 2-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir during which various projects are being inaugurated.

He said that some of the machinery could not reach on time from Singapore due to flight restrictions due to covid.

“Control features are being installed and will take few days,”he said, adding that in a month or so it will be hopefully inaugrated and thrown open for vehicular movement.

They said that among others, Mr Giridhar Aramane will inaugurate double-tube Banihal-Qazigund tunnel along the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway and Z-Morh tunnel in Ganderbal district besides projects at Zojilla.
