Srinagar, June 30: Two militants were killed in a gunfight in Waghama area of Bijbhera in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district Tuesday.
“Two unidentified militants have been killed. Searches going on,” police said in a tweet.
The gunfight ensued after a joint team of Police and Army’s 3 RR launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Waghama.
As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
So far 42 militants have been killed in south Kashmir in 15 gunfights in this month alone. The killing also takes the number of militant casualties to 118 in Valley this year.
