Srinagar: Four militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Shopian district, reports said on Wednesday.
“All 4 (militants) have been killed at Melhura Shopian,’ a police officer told INS.
Reports said bodies of all the four militants have been found at the encounter site.
The slain militants are believed to be affiliates of Ansar Gazwatul Hind and one among them is said to be top Commander. However, identity of the militants has not been revealed so far.
The encounter had ensued after a joint team of army’s 55 RR, Police Shopian and CRPF laid a siege at Melhura village late last night.
A police officer said that the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of some militants.
He said that the exchange of fire took place in the area soon after the joint team fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot.
