Anantnag: Tourist destination Kokernag area known for gardens, pristine waters, is fast turning into an open garbage dumping sites as heaps of wastes including animal carcasses are lying on the roads, in parks.

Locals claimed that some people dump garbage on the road side in Anantnag Sinthan road near Bindoo Zalangam village only to irk commuters including tourists moving towards resorts.

“Not only is it irking to people but the heaps of garbage has only attracted dogs who are on prowl in the areas and the situation is scary. In such high temperatures, break out of an epidemic seems inevitable,” residents said.

They accused Municipal Comittee Kokernag of callous approach towards official duties by not clearing the garbage from the places.

They have urged Deputy Comissioner of the district to intervene so that the residents can have a sigh of relief.
