Army commander chairs key security review meeting

Srinagar: The Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh on Thursday chaired a “key security review meeting” here.
The army commander arrived in Srinagar today on a two day visit to review the overall security scenario in the Kashmir Valley.
According to a spokesman of army, the army commander chaired a key security review meeting which was attended by the senior officials from the Army, Police, CRPF and other security agencies.
“During the meeting, Amarnath Yatra, neutralisation of (militants) and minimisation of civilian casualties during operations were focused,” he said, adding, “ He also appreciated the synergy being maintained through the joint efforts of all the agencies.” He said that the synergy was most critical for successful counter militancy operations, the spokesman added.
Earlier Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, in a ceremony renamed, The Army Goodwill School Wuzur as “Shaheed Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani, Ashok Chakra, Sena Medal** Army Goodwill School Wuzur”. “The renaming was done to honour the contributions of a great son of soil, who was the first Kashmiri to be bestowed Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award of the country on Republic Day this year.”
The Army Commander accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen KJS Dhillon also visited formations along the Line of Control in Kupwara District. He was briefed on development works, the counter infiltration grid and operational preparedness, the spokesman said. “The Army Commander was appreciative of the measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted by the units and formations to meet the challenges posed by the inimical elements.”
