Tehsildar Tral withdraws Rs 8.50 Lakh from Awqaf account without info to core members

Tral: Tehsildar Tral has allegedly withdrawn an amount of Rs 8.5 lakh from the official account of Awqaf in Tral area of Pulwama district without the information and consent of the core members.
Sources revealed to INS that the Tehsildar withdrew the amount by using his signature on cheques as is the main member of Awqaf body.
They said that five core members of the Awqaf body appointed by the government were unaware about the withdrawals in the form of two cheques from the official account.
Soon after core members came to know about it, sources said, they immediately called a meet and directed the Tehsildar to return the amount.
“Soon after one lakh fifty thousand was given back to Awqaf by the Tehsildar while remaining amount is still under his possession,” sources said.
Meanwhile, locals have expressed resentment over it and have requested Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and ADC Tral to intervene in the matter. They also demanded action against the Tehsildar at an earliest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral, S.A. Raina, told INS that after getting back to back calls from Awqaf members, he immediately talked to the concerned Tehslidar. He said that the Tehsildar has informed that amount has been withdrawn for some “legal purposes”.
Asked how the Tehsildar can withdraw the amount without the consent of core members, Raina said that he already directed Tehsildar to credit back the amount immediately which according him was credited back by the Tehsildar later.
“We will take care of these things in future and will ensure a good protocol in the Awqaf,” Raina assured.
