Kulgam: At least six civilians have been injured including one hit by a bullet during clashes between protesters and government forces in Tazipora Mohammad Pora of Kulgam, post killing of a militant in gunfight there.

According to officials at District Hospital at least four of the injured have been shifted to Srinagar.

“Among the injured is one youth identified as Yawar Ahmad who has been hit by a bullet in abdomen,” Medical Superintend DH Kulgam Dr Muzaffar Ahmad told INS.

He added among the six injured four have received pellet gun wounds including three in eyes and one has been hit in head.

“We have referred four patients to Srinagar,” he said.

Clashes erupted in the area after a gunfight broke out between militants and government forces during wee hours of Wednesday.

Forces later claimed that one militant has been killed in the gunfight. Identification of whom is being ascertained.

Police sources said that the operation in the area was jointly conducted by Army, SOG and Police following specific tip-off about militants hiding in the area.

“As the searches were intensified, hiding militant opened fire leading to gunfight in which one militant was killed,” they said.

Clashes were going on in the area when the last report came in.
