Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world, was closed for traffic on Friday after fresh shooting stones in Ramban district, leavening hundreds of vehicles stranded.

A traffic department official told INS that keeping in view intermittent landslide and shooting stones at Monkey Morh, only stranded vehicles between Ramban-Banihal stretch shall be allowed towards Srinagar, subject to fair weather and road condition.

“No fresh vehicle shall be allowed from Jammu/Udhampur towards Srinagar,” he said. Earlier the thoroughfare was reopened after more than 24 hours of closure but it was closed after fresh landslides and shootings stones at Monkey Morh rendered it unsafe for the traffic at 1:30 p.m.
