Clashes erupt in Ganderbal following funeral prayers of slain HM militant

Ganderbal: Massive clashes erupted in Serch area of Ganderbal following funeral prayers of slain local militant on Sunday.

According to eyewitnesses thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Rahil Ahmad, a Hizul Mujahideen affiliate from Nuner area of Ganderbal. He was killed in Shopian gunfight on Saturday, along with an associate.

“He was buried at his ancestral graveyard in the area,” they said.

Rahil had few days back joined militancy. He was an M.Tech student.

“Soon after the funeral concluded, youth clashed with government forces who retaliated with tear gas shelling,” locals said.

One policeman was injured after he was over run by the police vehicle amid chaos.

“He suffered injuries in leg,” sources said.

Clashes were going on in the area when last reports came in.
